Hans Wieland

I first met Hans at the Organic Centre, Rossinver when I attended a Garden to Field Course in 2010. We worked hard on our little plot in 2011 and had the bounty of beetroots, onions, potatoes, leeks, cabbages and carrots, all grown within metres of the Atlantic Ocean.

Since then Hans has been a great help to us in organising Lobsters & Lettuce and we were enchanted by his take on us that we were being “very bold” having such an event in Bundoran. However bold we are, Hans has supported us all the way and we are delighted to have his expertise and knowledge on board our Lobsters & Lettuce ship.

Hans Wieland will present Grow Your Own Organic Salad Bowl

Hans Wieland, teacher at the Organic Centre, Rossinver.

Hans Wieland from Cliffony in Co. Sligo was an organic cheese maker for 20 years and works and teaches at The Organic Centre, Rossinver, Co. Leitrim since 1997. He developed the first HSE funded “Community Food Project” in 2004 and has initiated SEED in 2010, a collaboration of 6 organic centres, to bring an organic garden to every school in the country.  He loves gardening and is an expert in storing and preserving.

Hans will be providing a hands on demonstration at the Glor Na Mara Community Garden on Saturday 7th July at 11 am. Join him at the garden where he will show us round harveting and preparing the Organic Salad Bowl. I’m looking forward to this one as there’s nothing nicer than the satisfaction of pulling veg and eating it within minutes and without the hassle of the checkout.

About Lobsters and Lettuce

Taking on the challenge of a blog for 2015. Lobsters and Lettuce is an assortment of thoughts on life, the universe and everything. Community development, enterprise and food, from origin to plate, may all feature as well as books and travel. Going against the structured grain - we'll see what happens.
